Any time you remodel your kitchen, you can be sure of one thing: it will go out of style within a few years because of the constantly changing trends and styling forced upon us by the marketing gurus in this ultra competitive segment. This is not bad in and of itself if it were not for the fact that it is the most expensive component--appliances--that go out of style quickest, sometimes simply because of their color. Do you remember when pea-green was the in thing in kitchens? Luckily for us, there is a very simple way to start out stylish and stay that way for years--install the latest stainless steel appliances. You have almost certainly seen older stainless steel appliances (and sinks) that look as good as new and as chic and sleek as they did years ago. If you own them, you consider yourself a genius for having made what may be your best investment in remodeling. It may be instructive to understand just what it is that makes them this way. The first thing that jumps to mind when you see stainless steel is "surgical" and this is good for the image of a spotless kitchen! The next thing that strikes you is the illusive quality that makes them utilitarian, tough and elegant, a very rare and valuable combination that is evident in every corner of the kitchen, from the range, range hood, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and sink to the implements and utensils. It's not surprising therefore to find that a lot of the cooking gurus and chefs on TV subtly suggest to you the secret that makes them so good at what they do--the stainless steel kitchen goodies that they are ready to sell you for a bargain price! They know that stainless steel appliances have already pre-sold themselves and all it takes is their prestigious logo slapped on to make them special. Of course we want in our kitchen what the gourmet chef uses in his. It imparts on us not just an aura of expertise but also one of sensible hard-headed decision making because stainless steel is not a fashion but a statement. It spells "high end" because it is and it doesn't go out of style with the colors and glitzy features. There is another excellent and invaluable quality to stainless steel and this is the fact that it can complement any kitchen decor. Gone are the days when beige and white were considered the standard in "neutral" colors. Stainless steel trumps them with its absence of color and its reflection of its surroundings! In addition, the material can be made to accent one element of the kitchen or fade into the background, all with perfect elan. So whether your cabinets are oak, maple, plastic, glass, black, blue, red, yellow or green, stainless steel appliances will go fantastically well with all of them.
